Install Dragon Law Enforcement

Set up Dragon on your Windows PC in three steps, or deploy it across your organization with standalone packages.

What you'll need

  • A Windows PC. On a Mac, run Windows with Parallels Desktop (opens in a new tab) (we can't help configure Parallels).
  • Your organization token (see step 1)
  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, to dictate into websites

Install on your computer

Recommended

For individual users and small offices. This version of Dragon updates itself automatically when new releases come out.

  1. Step 1: Copy your organization token

    The installer asks for it during setup.

  2. Step 2: Download and run the installer

    Open the downloaded file and paste your token when asked.

  3. Step 3: Add the browser extension

    Needed to dictate into websites and web apps such as Gmail, and to use commands like “select <text>” and “scratch that”. Install the one for the browser you use.

    Then close and reopen every browser window. If text still doesn't go into websites, restart your computer.

Using a physical microphone? Some Windows setups have a 3–6 second delay after activation, gaps in dictation, or poor recognition. Adjust your audio settings (opens in a new tab) or call us and we'll help.

Deploying to more than a handful of computers, or to virtual desktops? Use the standalone packages instead.

Standalone packages for IT

For larger deployments, virtual desktops, remote servers, mixed local and remote setups, or machines with software conflicts. We hold these packages back from the newest release until they've proven stable, so they're often a version behind.

Before you deploy

  1. Install the prerequisites: .NET Framework 4.8 or later, and Microsoft Edge WebView2 (opens in a new tab), which some context menus need.
  2. Unblock the ZIP before extracting it. Right-click the file, choose Properties, and select Unblock. If you skip this, some required components may not extract.
  3. Extract the files. Any folder works. We recommend: C:\Program Files\Nuance\Dragon Law Enforcement\{version}\
  4. Create a shortcut to SoD.exe and name it “Dragon Law Enforcement”. Don't rename SoD.exe itself, or Dragon won't launch.

Citrix, RDS & VMware

Running Dragon on a remote server? Install a standalone package on the server and the audio extensions on each local workstation.

  • On the server: install Dragon on the same server, and in the same user session, as the application you dictate into. That gives Dragon full text control.

  • On each workstation: install the audio extension for your platform. Without it, audio sent to the server can use 2–3 MB/s.

  • PowerMic buttons: each download also contains a PowerMic extension for record and programmable button support. Install it on the local workstation.

  • Other handheld mics: button support for the leading brands is in the “Third-party mics” package.

Troubleshooting

“The specified server URL cannot be reached”

Add these addresses under Internet Options > Trusted Sites, and make sure firewall port 443 is open:

  • https://*.nuance.com
  • https://*.nuancehdp.com
  • https://*.nuanceunderstanding.com

Still seeing the error? Certificates may be out of date. Install all Windows updates, then read this article (opens in a new tab).

Dictation doesn't go into websites

Make sure the Chrome or Edge extension is installed. The first time Dragon runs after installing it, close every browser window and reopen it. If that doesn't help, restart your computer.
