This page is dedicated to the installation process for Dragon Law Enforcement.
Looking for the mobile phone app?
We offer a risk-free trial (no credit card required), and complimentary demonstration, so you can see for yourself how Dragon really does live up to the hype.
The installation method will depend heavily on your environment. If you are in a complex environment; use virtualization; connect to remote servers; or just aren't sure which installation process to follow, please give us a call. We offer complimentary installation assistance to each of our customers.
Dragon must be installed on Windows. If you are on a Mac, you will need to install Windows via Bootcamp or run Parallels. Configuring Bootcamp or Parallels are outside the scope of our work, but you can find the relevant information below.
Working with a web-based platforms or want to dictate into websites like Gmail? You'll need these.
In order to unlock the full power of Dragon with websites and web-based applications, you must use the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers along with the extensions for Dragon. The extensions allow your dictation to go directly into the browser-based application and use of commands such as "select <text>" and "scratch that".
The first time Dragon runs after installing the extensions, you will need to close and restart all instances of your browsers for it to work properly. If text isn't going into the sites as expected, try restarting your computer. If you still encounter issues, give us a call at 833-341-1411.
Dragon Anywhere is a mobile phone app that allows you to dictate on the go. It syncs with your Dragon Law Enforcement profile so your vocabulary and speech profile are available on your mobile device.
This section should be viewed from your mobile device.
Please note: this is a two-step process which requires you to come back to this page (on your mobile device) after installing the app to configure your profile.
This section is meant for IT administrators deploying to large environments; virtualized environments; remote servers; mixed local / remote environments; or users with specific software incompatibilities.
We intentionally delay updating our "latest" standalone deployment packages to ensure stability. As such, they are frequently behind the actual latest release.
Dragon requires .Net Framework 4.8 or higher. An upcoming version of Dragon will require .NET 6 runtime as a mandatory system requirement. If possible, you should install version 6 now to avoid unnecessary updates in the future. Microsoft Edge WebView 2 is also required for some context menus to operate properly.
When using a standalone zip package, you must right-click, go to Properties, and "Unblock" the file at the bottom before extraction. Failure to do so may prevent some required components from being extracted.
You may place the extracted files anywhere on the target machine, however, we recommend using
C:\Program Files\Nuance\Dragon Law Enforcement\{version}\
.
The main executable is SoD.exe. Please create a shortcut to SoD.exe for your user and name the
shortcut to Dragon Law Enforcement. Do not rename the actual executable or the software will
fail to launch.
General release standalone packages without core modifications.
For full text control and availability of all functionality, Dragon should be installed on the same server as the target application and run in the same user session. This will allow Dragon to access the text controls of the target application. When deploying to a remote server, you should only use the standalone deployment packages.
Virtual environments require an audio channel extension be installed on the local workstations when Dragon is deployed to a remote server. Without this extension, the audio being sent to the remote server can consume up to 2-3MB/s. There are separate packages available for each virtualization environment type. For more information, please refer to the Audio Routing guide.
Inside the zip file is a separate extension for the Nuance PowerMic programmable microphones. This extension enables button support to start/stop recording and allow for the other programmable buttons to be utilized. This should be installed on the local workstation as most users will use a physical PowerMic microphone.
If the users are using a different handheld microphone, there are extensions to enable button support for the leading brands in the package labelled "Third-party Mics"
